Bilquis Mir

Paralegal

Perfil

Bilquis Mir is a paralegal in our Children Department.

Bilquis recently graduated from the University of Warwick. During her studies, she interned at Dawson Cornwell in her first year and began to pursue her career in family law thereafter, primarily assisting within the Children Department on legally aided and privately funded matters involving care, non-molestation, contact arrangements, and international child abduction.

During her time at University, Bilquis served as an executive member of Warwick Law Society and acted as an academic mentor for first and second year students. She also undertook a year long placement as a volunteer paralegal at the Central England Law Centre’s Immigration and Asylum Clinic, working with asylum seekers and refugees. She recently completed her undergraduate law dissertation on the role of the court in gender-affirming treatment for Gillick-competent children, exploring whether Gillick-competent children should be able to access gender-affirming treatment without court intervention.

Bilquis has frequently undertaken pro bono work internationally, having interned at the Asma Jahangir Legal Aid Cell in Pakistan researching the Hague Convention, and at Justice Project Pakistan, where she worked on Human Rights matters and advocated for the abolishment of the death penalty for mentally ill prisoners. She has also volunteered with SOS Villages in Pakistan, teaching children in orphanages and underprivileged communities.

Bilquis speaks fluent Urdu and Hindi, is learning French, and enjoys running, reading and painting in her free time.
