In March 2016, Shabina Begum was invited to speak at two sessions in New York. On 14th March 2016, she spoke at “Developing an Islamic Response & Speaking out against Gender-Based Violence” at the Church Centre of United Nations. On 17th March 2016, she participated in a panel discussion on “The influence of cultural traditions and social norms on access to SRHR – and what CEDAW’s got to do with it”.
