Carolina Marín Pedreño is visiting the United States of America from 11 January until 12 February 2016 having been awarded a place on the 2016 International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). There is no application for this program. International Visitors are selected and nominated by American Foreign Service Officers at US embassies around the world. Carolina was nominated for this prestigious position by the USA Embassy in London.
The IVLP is the US Department of State’s flagship professional exchange program. More than 290 current and former Chiefs of State and Heads of Government around the world, thousands of cabinet-level ministers and many other distinguished leaders from the private and public sectors have participated since the program’s inception in 1940.
Previous alumni of the program include President Nicolas Sarkozy of France (1985), Prime Minster Gordon Brown of the United Kingdom (1984 and 1992), former Prime Minister Helen Clark of New Zealand (1998) and President Alvaro Uribe Velez of Columbia (1998).
